Artistic Intention
Our final product is going to be a remixed live performance of "How many more years" by Howlin' Wolf. We are going to perform as a band that has Naitik (Guitar), Vihan (Bass Guitar), Nelis (Singer) and Me (Piano). Ms Pobjoy is going to perform with us on the drums. Our audience is our MP4 class mates who are also performing their pieces. I want our audience to be to hear the original emotions of the artist, Howlin' Wolf, combined with our own ideas that are a result of our own experiences. We will attempt to perform in sync and to the best of our abilities for the audience to be able to hear the original emotions of the artist Howlin' Wolf. This is not completely possible, as we won't be able to bring the same emotions and feelings to the song as we can only imagine what Howlin' Wolf went through. Another reason for us not being able to perform all the emotions and expressions of the original song is that none of us are from his culture, so we can''t fully understand the ways his culture shaped the song. To still make the song sound as good as possible, we will show our emotions as well, to compensate for those emotions that we can't provide to the original song. We will show our emotions via improvisation, as improvisation is shaped by our choices, which in turn are shaped by our past personal experiences and cultural identity. Improvisation will allow all of us to show our individual skills as well, and the original song will provide us a chance to show that we can work well together.
Practise 1
This was our first practise as a band. We practised on different levels of the sheet, depending on how good each of us were at the starting point Our main goal was to get in some practise, and figure out what instruments each of us were playing. I played drums. I couldn't keep the beat or play the hard level since I had only played the drums once before. In the second of our double lesson, we decided that I would switch to piano since I wasn't good at drumming. We decided that we would ask Vihan to be the drummer when he came back. I had already switched to the piano for around 10-20 minutes by the time we recorded the practise. We tried to be in sync, but it was hard to concentrate on the metronome. In the next practises, I want to improve my playing and reach Level 3 on the sheet, and I want to be in sync with others.
